Link feature is halfway finished

torsdag, april 21st, 2005

If you're logged in, you get the option to REPLY to other messages. This will lead you to “write text” and also insert the related media id. You can also write a web link in the “related to” field. Try it out!

Never finish anything

onsdag, april 20th, 2005

Well, I can clearly see that I tend to not make anything complete. I guess I'm just fooling around trying new stuff, and if it kind of works, that's enough to me. That leaves a lot of unfinished functions, but I guess they will work as soon as someone says “hey, that function's really cool, but can you fix problem x?”

Well, today I've created a RSS 2.0 feed of all subpages, which means for example http://ag.vided.org/rss is the link to my rss-feed. All other users have a similar feed, of course. I haven't linked to any feeds yet though. Maybe I will.

b2Evolution

mandag, april 18th, 2005

I'm trying out some weird stuff today. I am a single person able to program a few lines of code every day. The vided.org system will never become a _complete_ system for advanced users. But if I seamlessly integrate vided.org with an advanced open-source blog system, it might be just that. At least for the regular blogger, casually-video blog guy. And I think most of us still are.

I've chosen b2evolution as the blog system. It easily supports several blogs for each user as well as several users for each blog.

In practise, this will eventually mean that you can post both videoclips and SMIL-edited videos neatly in your b2evolution blog.

The result looks ugly (it usually does with me), and all I've done this far is making vided.org automatically write drafts to b2's database (just for user 'ag' so far). And the videos aren't embedded as they should be. But most of all I'm interested in opinions wether this is a good idea or not. I could probably easily manage to have a common login-system - means you log in once and are logged in both places. Other suggestions? Please mail me, st06371 at student.uib.no

OK, have a look, but don't laugh at it yet, it's just a “proof of consept” I guess.

User settings

onsdag, april 13th, 2005

Now you can “customize” parts of your subpage, as well as change your password. Not much new, I know.

Today I've been reading a lot, and spent some time testing the newest Windows-version of ANT. It's really cool, you can watch for hours……

Captions

tirsdag, april 12th, 2005

I've been away at a seminar all day, but I've added support for captions under each videoclip. Not at all completed, but it's a start, just spent an hour on it anyways. I'm using txt-files, hence no html-code is interpreted, I wonder if I should use .html and if that gives support for html-tags. I'll try tomorrow, or better yet read some documentation. :-) Now I'm going home. Have a nice day!

SMIL, Duration and caption

mandag, april 11th, 2005

SMIL-code is slightly improved. There's now support for duration. Enter 0 for “unlimited”/full length. Caption - looks bad now, messy. Ignore it please. But will work very soon! (Tomorrow, if I don't go to this “interaction design seminar” lasting all day tomorrow.

Mentioned elsewhere

mandag, april 11th, 2005

I'm surprised to be mentioned by other sites already, even though almost no-one knows what exactly this 'vided.org' is.
Archival.tv
Huixing, some japanese blog?

I've got to keep working, to deserve mentioning. Right now nothing's anything to proud of….

Weekend break

fredag, april 8th, 2005

Much has happened to the user-pages (subdomain.vided.org), but not so much as I hoped for with the main system. I've added some tables to the database, but there's still more to do with the database as well.

New features (randomly listed) in the coming days might be:
* Captioned movies
* Keywords
* Search features
* Link feature between media objects
* Decide length for each movieclip in edit-mode
* Archieve for (v)blog

FAQ

onsdag, april 6th, 2005

You can tell by now that I don't look forward to wrecking my until now perfectly fine database structure. How? I just wrote a simple FAQ, and put it on the login page. Maybe not the best place, but I have to ensure that everyone sees it.

Text submit is fixed, and I'm never following my plan

onsdag, april 6th, 2005

Instead of altering the database I ended up fixing text submitting. This should work perfectly now, if you find any errors, please submit to me. You can also write html-code like a link to your favorite web-site.

Ok, now I will ruin everything, I mean alter the database. Hope to be online again in a few hours.
